Just went to the art institute of Chicago

I just took a fun trip to Chicago and one of the places I went to is the art institute of Chicago. One of the things that struck me after returning to my home in Colorado is how much better some of the artwork is there than what you see in the various shops around town. Maybe that’s stating the obvious, but it makes a lot of the local art I see look amateurish and sloppy. It’s as though people gravitate to the mediums where you can just slop something together with little risk of any errors messing anything up, and stay way from the stuff that takes extreme care and skill. You’re much more likely to see a rough sketch or a style of painting that’s more open to ‘interpretation’ than to see something that has amazing levels of detail and care put into it. The vast majority of the pieces in the museum obviously took a huge amount of time, skill, and care to create, which is why they’re so impressive.
